I watched the Finding Nemo bonus features and then watched the movie again. Knowing more I enjoyed it even more.
Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks, Mark and Maureen.
Constants of Nature explains a universe with four spatial dimensions can not contain atoms as we know them. Don't ask me why.
After fun and sweaty racquetball I went to Mario's for a pizza! Caution: colors in photo have been equalized.
Before biking I saw a dog playing with a squirrel. Caution: one of them appears to be dead.
Conditions today were slightly better than yesterday for riding....mostly sunny, almost 60 degrees. Oh, yeah! I went to Cathedral Pines for the first time in a long time. Parts of the trail have been recently rerouted or extended. It is fun, especially the roller coaster downs and ups.
The local news has a story about the danger of mercury in tuna. The excellent headline is "Canned Tuna Or Canned Poison?"
Here's another produce shopping quiz question! When I shop for bananas do I protect the bananas by placing them in a plastic bag or do I forgo the plastic and allow bananas to be exposed to germs from the cart (basket), the checkout conveyor belt and the checkout clerk? See Comments for the answer.
Today's quiz prize: a shopping spree!
A transportation bill is being worked on (or blocked, whatever). Currently, each state gets back at least 90% of the gas tax dollars that it pays. States that are being shortchanged want that bumped up to 95%. This is how nuts our government is. We're sending our money to Washington and paying our politicians to send it back with instructions on how to spend it (because they know best) and we'd all like to get back at least as much as we sent in.
Perhaps "magical" is a better word than "nuts."
C-SPAN 2 showed Al Franken discussing his book at the University of Missouri. He makes it seem so easy to criticize the Bush administration and various dunderheads. I guess that's Al Franken's genius. The criticisms weren't particularly new, just sharp.
Did donating blood slow me down a bit for mild and sweaty racquetball? Speculators say, "Yes!"
If I don't ride soon I'm going to cry. I'm looking in your direction, Sunday.
Those who recommend the Google Toolbar are right. It suavely does pop-up blocking and more. IE 5.5 or higher required.
My blood donation prize was revealed today: a Blockbuster $5 giftcard! The photo was taken by Karen. She sings along with the radio while working.
The blood center here is offering me a thank you gift at my next donation. It will be one of five fine gifts ranging from a Blockbuster giftcard to a Barnes & Noble giftcard. I won't find out what it is until I go.
Pop Quiz! When I shop for a bag of carrots, do I carefully examine the carrots or rashly grab a bag from the top of the pile?
Today's Pop Quiz Prize: a fantasy vacation!
While you ponder this, here's a dark photo.
Racquetball was mild and sweaty.
Quiz answer: I carefully examine the carrots. If you got the correct answer, congratulations!
I watched Finding Nemo. It's worth it for the amazing animation plus there are some clever parts.
The Gillette Company sent me a Mach 3 Turbo razor. If you ordered it for me then I thank you.
Which makes you wonder, how big is the Universe? If the Universe is 14 billion years old, might it have a radius of more than 14 billion light-years? Apparently it might "extend infinitely in all directions." And it's all connected.
John D. Barrow: It is sobering to reflect upon all the metaphysical and religious responses there have been, over the centuries, to the darkness of the night sky and the patterns of stars embroidered upon it; to the vastness of space and our incidental place within it, a mere dot in the grand scheme of things. Modern cosmology shows that these features are not random accidents. They are part and parcel of the whole interconnectedness of the universe. They are, in fact, necessary features of any universe that contains living observers.
Watch Andrew W.K. on Monday evening's Conan repeat on Comedy Central.
I copied a style sheet and messed around with it.
I asked my library to get the DVD Unprecedented - 2000 Presidential Election through interlibrary loan. There are two copies in the county but those libraries won't lend DVDs to another library. My library has decided to purchase the DVD. My library is so fine.
Straight from the bag the regular natural granola from Trader Joe's is not so great. It is sweetened with malt syrup and fruit juice concentrate. Perhaps it's better with milk. The pumpking pie spice granola is very good.
Cool and sweaty racquetball was OK.
My current book is The Constants of Nature by John D. Barrow, a nice change from the political polemics and perhaps equally practical.
Have you been enjoying the new episodes of South Park?
My dialup connection was FLAKY for much of the day. At one point I was connected at 12,000 bps. Crazy time. It's OK now.
Cool and sweaty racquetball was good. Mark is letting me borrow his new Finding Nemo DVD.
Chun, who reads this and whom I've never met, recommended the film Battle of Algiers (French with English subtitles). It's good, tense, with some graphic violence. Though the politics differ, the tactics and resolve shown in the film have parallels with the conflict in Iraq.
The first verse of the Stiff Little Fingers' "When the Stars Fall from the Sky" is about the same topic.
Everything is connected.
My backhand shots eventually came around today. Following vigorous racquetball I went to vote. The lines were short a little after 8 pm.
We voted for county and township governments....perhaps we have too much government. Most of the districts seem designed to give one party a decided advantage. Dick Morris wrote about this in his book. The main power in controlling Congress is in drawing district lines.
Dick Morris also made good points about the problems of teen smoking, nursing home care and corporate fraud. The political half of his book doesn't have much to recommend it.
Sun and record high temps made it a fine day for a ride. I went to Bethpage State Park for the first time. It was fun, of course. The trails are unplanned, branching out and crisscrossing....not too special except for some dirt jumps and well-fed squirrels like this one.
Erhan invited me to a dinner for people observing Ramadan and their friends. There was culturally diverse food and music and a sung prayer from the Koran....very enjoyable, thanks.
I kept missing the backhand touch shot at racquetball today....boo!!
To close out my Fishburney week, I watched Othello. It's alright, not that I know Shakespeare.
