Hello, hairy woodpecker!
My truck started on the third try today. When the weather gets into the 20s there will be a party, I bet.
I've had more cookies in the last three days than I had in the previous six months.
Each day it snows.
One good thing about moving during the winter is that I'll be here for the spring.
A current hot issue in Wisconsin is the proposed law to allow people to carry concealed weapons. The governor vetoed it. One house has voted to override the veto. The other house will vote soon. Most people in the state oppose the law. I don't know how this became a priority.
How about a law requiring people to clear the snow from their vehicles before driving? Many people do not do this.
Or a law requiring people to install splash guards? The front of my truck is caked with frozen spray.
Milwaukee's slick roads slowed traffic. I admired the skyline as it changed from dusk to darkness.
Four-day distance comes to about 1026 miles.
Yesterday....21 Jan: It was a fun day of seeing friends, playing racquetball with my old crew and dining at the tavern. My racquetball skills held up though we played doubles only.
Today....22 Jan: The 390 miles from Lewisburg, PA, to Maumee, OH, were uneventful. The occasional snow flurries were not a problem.
My Priceline hotel is Courtyard by Marriott. Each room has complimentary "high-speed" Internet access. Speakeasy says the download speed is 243 kbps and the upload speed is 301 kbps.
Tomorrow....23 Jan: Wisconsin!
After a final dose of New York traffic, I am visiting a friend in PA.
Goodbye, Long Island....
I think/hope I've finished packing boxes for shipping. I have seven ready to go, bringing the total to 19.
I used Priceline.com to reserve a Toledo hotel room. Before bidding I checked HotWire.com and BiddingForTravel.com before bidding.
As part of an errand day, I learned that boxes at one storage place cost about half as much as boxes at one shipping place. The shipping place didn't have the size of box that I wanted.
Other errand stops: library, gas station, credit union, drugstore, and another gas station because the free air machine wasn't working at the first one.
I watched Wings of Desire. Some people really like it. It didn't touch me.
Going away racquetball was fun and sweaty. Then the going away dinner was fun and sweaty.
Do you get tired of people mentioning how cold it is? I do not.
My life expectancy is 91.4 years. To raise that I can floss more (+1.2 years), take aspirin daily (+0.8 years), drink wine daily (+0.6 years), and/or become a woman (+3.0 years). It will really help if one of my parents or aunts lives to 90 in excellent health (+4.8 years).
On the way to Wisconsin it looks like I'll be visiting friends in Pennsylvania and then a hotel in Toledo!
My finger is better, thanks.
I cut a finger on my favorite court during fun and sweaty racquetball. I wrapped my finger in a paper towel and finished playing.
Aided by online info I'm finishing things I missed in Legend of Dragoon.
Weather looks good for leaving on Tuesday.
If you're like me, you've been wondering if lava lamps are damaged by cold weather. I emailed the company and was told that cold temperatures do not affect lava lamps.
With the packing, the cold weather and the football watching I went outside once this weekend. That was to take out trash.
My PC keyboard hasn't been usable because the connector wouldn't stay in the jack. The mouse worked fine so my input-challenged machine was somewhat usable.
I conjectured that the faceplate on the case might be interfering with it so I took it off. To do that required moving the motherboard which involved removed the PCI and graphics cards.
After reconnecting, the keyboard connector was tight. The only trouble was that my PC didn't post, didn't give any video and shut down after a few minutes.
I double- and triple-checked the cards, removed the PCI cards and used a jumper to clear the BIOS. Eventually it booted with a functioning keyboard! The only remaining problem is hanging when it shuts down. Will that work itself out?
Static electricity may be to blame for today's problems.
I mailed two boxes of books today.
What do you get after playing nine games of tiring and sweaty racquetball, showering and wearing a hat in the cold? Answer.
I sent four boxes to Wisconsin today. Perhaps thanks to the cold weather there were no other customers.
The Legend of Dragoon is over. We saved the world again.
Cold, cold, cold....good day to stay in and pack.
Best things I've found lately are taped episodes of The Late Show with David Letterman from 1996. Best clip has been of Mia Farrow on What's My Line? with then-husband Frank Sinatra.
After fun and slightly sweaty racquetball I got one last pizza from Mario's. I almost dropped it.
Things are aligning for me to move to the great state of Wisconsin. I may be there in two weeks. Nothing is settled regarding housing or employment. Oh, yeah!
I carried in my bike from my truck. My bike had resided there since I replaced a tube six months back.
Today's discarded videotape that I didn't know I had even though it has survived at least four moves: Farm Aid V.
