Bruce Eckel, in Thinking in Java , discusses changes Sun has made to the Java programming language and quotes Joseph Stiglitz' Theory of Escalating Commitment:
The cost of continuing mistakes is borne by others, while the cost of admitting mistakes is borne by yourself.
Someone here suggested that John Kerry select "Let's do it right" as his campaign theme. Now New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman proposes a National Commission for Doing Things Right. Everything is connected.
Here's a fun fact: the first CD I played in my car was the very fun Hair: Debatable by Atom and His Package. It's a recording of his final show. It has all his hits!
My dad said some of the parts that I mowed look better than they do when he mows.
It's a trick!
President Bush said that the Abu Ghraib prison will be demolished. This seems like a decision the new Iraqi government should be capable of making. How sovereign will this sovereign government be?
I'm enjoying my RAV4. I have to get used to how easy it is to speed.
I should have mentioned that it wasn't in stock at the dealer so they traded RAV4s with a dealer in Naperville, IL.
Hello, opossum!
OK! The new car transaction was without incident. My RAV4 is from Jon Lancaster Toyota. I picked it up during a break in the thunderstorms. All negotiating was done via email, phone and fax.
Today I found out that in the past month there have been over 20 fires started in the Rocky Point preserve, around my favorite bike trail on Long Island:
I rode RP yesterday and saw some of the areas that got burned. The places between Mogul one and Mogul two is horrible... the trees are in tact for the most part, but all the brush and small strees are gone.
It took me back, I had to stop and just look at it for a while. You can see where the fire fighters made their stand against it as the burned leaves are right up to the trail line, but it didnt jump to the other side in all but one place.
Just thinking about it makes me shudder, there is just so much damage in there its scary.
The dealer agreed to the invoice price for the floor mats so the deal is set. If things work out, in a week I'll have a car.
My sales consultant told me she'd give me a "good price" on floor mats. She faxed me an offer sheet to sign. I called her and pointed out that the price for floor mats was the suggested retail price. She said she'll check with her manager. Tomorrow I'll fax the offer sheet with new numbers reflecting the invoice price for floor mats. If that is agreeable, we'll have a deal.
I've been getting quotes from dealers for a RAV4. The rear spoiler seems like it will be the most useless option.
Maybe I'll love it.
My previous suggestion for John Kerry's theme ("Enough is enough!") isn't positive enough. My new suggestion is: "Let's do it right!" This fits in with his message that he supported various proposals (free trade, education reform, using force in Iraq) that have been implemented poorly by the current administration.
Be positive!
Hello, raccoon getting corn on a chain! This raccoon didn't seem too bothered by the camera's flash.
Last night a raccoon visited. It left right after I took that photo but soon returned.
